Praised for “artistic and interpretive bravery”, Aku Sorensen is a Finnish-American violinist, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently based Helsinki, Finland.
A very active orchestral musician, Aku has played in and led countless ensembles over the years, including time as the concertmaster of the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Kapubändi, among others. He is also a frequent substitute with Finnish orchestras, with the 2018-2019 season including a 3-month stint with the Lapland Chamber Orchestra.
Aku is an avid chamber musician, having previously spent nearly 5 years as the first violinist of the award winning “This End Up” string quartet. Aku also works in the music world without his violin, with a budding conducting career and work as a producer for the NYKY contemporary music ensemble.
Aku is currently working on a master’s degree in violin performance at the Sibelius Academy under professor Merit Palas.
